What is the Town's plan for the Waste Management contract that expires at the end of 2026? (1/16/2024)

The plan is to establish a revolving fund and gradually increase user fees to give the Town options starting in 2027.  Residents will vote on establishing the revolving fund on March 12, 2024.  The Town's waste disposal costs are expected to double after the expiration of the current contract.  The Town's plan ensures residents do not experience a doubling of taxes or user fees in one year, by gradually increasing the costs.  Additionally, the funds set aside in the revolving fund will give the Town options once the Waste Management contract expires.  One planned use would be to augment user fee revenue to help keep the property tax impact of the facility stable.  Another option would be to use the funds to pursue alternative transportation options, such as buying a roll off truck.  This plan was unanimously recommended by the Advisory Budget Committee and Transfer Station and Recycling Center Review Committee.  This outcome is especially important because the two groups have very different goals and objectives and agree completely with the proposed path forward.
