Why does the Town have 'Barrington' Trash Bags which Increases Plastic Waste? (11/7/2022)

The operation of the Transfer Station and Recycling Center is advised by a review committee.  More information about the committee and what they are working on is available here: www.barrington.nh.gov/tsrcc

The Transfer Station and Recycling Center Review Committee has spent considerable time discussing the pay-as-you-throw (PAYT) trash bags and plastic waste.  At this time, they have not been able to identify a suitable alternative.  The Committee researched other communities and asked the Northeast Resource Recovery Association for alternative ideas.  Aside from the 'Barrington' bags, the next best option was a sticker which residents could put on their own bag to satisfy the PAYT requirements.  The Committee felt that the biggest constraint with stickers was ensuring compliance, especially with the current traffic flow and staff work station.  The Committee is not done with the conversation, but for the time being they have moved to more pressing tasks.
