Barrington Town Center
The area around the intersection of Routes 9 (Franklin Pierce Highway) and 125 (Calef Highway) has long been recognized by residents, business owners, and visitors as Barrington’s Town Center. Many have voiced a strong interest in preserving this space for community use, hoping future generations will have the chance to create lasting memories here—just as so many have in the past.
When the property was listed for sale in 2023, the Town worked with the property owner and secured approval from the voters in 2024 to help make that vision a reality.
Your feedback is essential in guiding the future of the Town Center. Please share your input on the Town Center by completing a brief survey.

Tax Increment Financing District
The first step in investing in the Town Center is the purchase of a vacant 13-acre lot south of Route 9, between Calef's Country Store, the Post Office, MD Motors, and the Elementary School to establish the Barrington Common. The Town has entered a Purchase and Sale Agreement with the current owner to secure the property, and has established the right to make improvements to the property as well as hold events as the revenue from the TIF district continues to pay for the property over the next several years.
Barrington Center Development Committee
The Barrington Center Development Committee (BCDC) is tasked with collaborating with members of the Barrington community to help establish a shared vision for the Town Center and guide its development.

UNH Downtowns and Trails
Last winter, the Town of Barrington partnered with UNH Cooperative Extension's Downtowns & Trails Program to help shape strategies for engaging residents and business owners in planning the community’s economic and civic future. Through this collaboration, Extension staff trained local volunteers to conduct community assessments and distribute surveys, helping gather valuable input on what people hope to see in the future of Barrington’s Town Center and local trail system.
More details about Barrington’s participation in the program can be found on the UNH website in Data Points, Plans, and Pathways: Barrington's Vision for the Future.
Master Plan Implementation Work
A Town’s Master Plan is a long-term guide that helps shape how a community grows and develops over time. It is meant to be a flexible, evolving document that can be updated as the community’s needs change. In Barrington, the Master Plan is regularly reviewed by a team made up of town staff, residents, business owners, and consultants. They look at new data, gather public input, and make updates to the plan when needed.
In the fall of 2024, Barrington began working with Resilience Planning & Design, along with Fougere Planning and Development and RKG Associates, to explore the best ways to put the Master Plan into action.
Project Announcement: Reimagining Barrington’s Town Center
The Town of Barrington is launching an exciting new initiative: Reimagining theTown Center. This effort builds on earlier visioning and planning work in Barrington, and aims to create a vibrant, connected, and welcoming town center for the community. Guided by a recent market analysis and regulatory review completed by the project consultants, the initiative will explore opportunities to enhance the area’s character, support and attract local businesses, provide some new housing alternatives, and create gathering places for residents to enjoy.
A Place for residents to gather, and for businesses to thrive!
Over the coming months, the project team will continue to engage with land use boards, business owners, developers, and residents to shape a shared vision for Barrington’s Town Center. A community event will be held on Saturday, September 21st, offering an opportunity for all to share ideas, ask questions, and help shape the future of this important part of town.
Stay tuned for more details and ways to get involved!
Market Analysis
As part of the Town’s Master Plan Implementation Project, a study was conducted to better understand the current and future needs of Barrington’s local market. In June 2025, RKG Associates presented the results of this study to the Planning Board and Select Board in a report titled Barrington Town Center Market Analysis. Following the presentation, they led a discussion about the key findings and their potential impact on the town’s future.
In addition to the full report, a Market and Zoning Analysis Summary was provided. This summary outlines the main points of the study and includes recommendations to help guide future planning and development efforts in Barrington.
