How do I obtain an absentee ballot?

In the State of New Hampshire, voting by absentee ballot is allowed for the following reasons:

  • Physical disability or impairment
  • Religious observance
  • Absence from Town or City of residence on the day of election
  • Employment obligations

An Official Absentee Ballot Request form may be obtained by calling or appearing in person in Town Hall. It is imperative that this form be signed in order for a voter’s absentee ballot to be counted, as this signature is compared to the signature on the affidavit envelope into which the voter puts their cast ballot. The resident needs to be a registered voter.

As an alternative to completing this form, the voter may write a letter for request for an Absentee Ballot and submit by mail, fax, or scanned to a .pdf file and e-mailed to the Town Clerk’s office. This letter must include the voter’s full name, residential address, mailing address where the ballot should be sent, the election date, and the voter’s signature.
